Object history
Registered File number 1994/1966, Streetstyle exhibition 1994-1995, in the exhibition it was part of the outfit called 'Young British Radical UK 1958-63' (includes the coat T.973-1994, the jumper T.974-1994, the scarf T.977-1995, the shoes T.978-1994 and the stockings T.976-1994).

Part of an ensemble compiled by Lou Taylor to reflect an outfit she wore as a young British radical between 1958-63. This outfit was displayed in the Streetstyle exhibition held at the V&A in 1994-5, noting:

"The clothes were absolutely not an end in themselves. Noone discussed them or seemingly took an interest in them. We wore practical, cheap and comfortable clothes for active campaigning. We wore very little make up and eschewed conventional notions of young women in the 1950s through approroation of loose and comfortable men's clothing. It needs to be remembered that it did not take much then, either in dress or politicial terms, to create a public shock."
