Place of origin

This badge signified membership of the Cavern Mecca, a meeting place for Beatles fans set up in the late 1970s. It was named after the Cavern Club, which was famous for early Beatles performances in Liverpool. The club itself was knocked down in the 1970s. A shop called the Magical Mystery Store was opened on nearby North John Street, and later moved to 18 Matthew Street, the same street as the original site of the club, and became the Cavern Mecca. It was the first museum and information centre on the Beatles in the area, long before The Beatles Story exhibition opened in 1990.
