Seated in The Blue Drawing Room, the Queen wore a lilac dress, pearl brooch and three strings of pearls. The Blue Drawing Room was originally used as a ballroom and is one of the most decorative and magnificent of the 775 rooms at Buckingham Palace. In the background of Beaton’s portrait the sumptuous flock wallpaper and two of the Corinthian columns can be glimpsed.
