Drawing

Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Catalina Chervin was born in Corrientes, Argentina in 1953. Her drawings are not planned and she does not make preparatory sketches. Instead she begins a drawing by building up an initial 'framework', covering the paper with short, delicate lines. At at certain point, when this ground has been laid, the individual work begins to suggest itself. The artist lets her hand move freely, allowing the drawing to emerge. The result here is a dense labyrinth of forms, surrounded by a rich, black, tonally varied ground, making a powerfully intense and introspective work.
