Martine Bedin was born and raised in France. In 1978 she moved to Florence to study architecture. In 1979 she contributed an installation entitled ‘La Casa Decorata’ to the Milan Furniture Fair. The following year she met Ettore Sottsass which lead to an invitation to join the group Memphis. Bedin’s contributions to Memphis were primarily in the area of lighting and graphic design. The iconic ‘Superfloor’ lamp and the much rarer ‘Terminus’ floor lamp were designed in the group’s first year. The latter shares the anthropomorphic character of many early Memphis designs. Probably only 4-5 examples were produced.
