Object history
This object was formerly in the collection of Barbara Morris, and was bequeathed by her to the Museum. Morris, who had worked in the V&A's Circulation Department, was a pioneer in the study of Victorian and Edwardian Decorative Arts. She had a particular interest in ceramics and glass of the period, examples of which she collected avidly. This 'Hop Pickers' jug with lid was made for Felix Summerly Art Manufactures. The V&A has the Majolica version of the jug (4521&A-1858).

Historical significance: The use of parian in the production of this jug is very unusual as similar pieces are usually made in stoneware.
Production
Attribution note: Produced for Felix Summerly Art Manufactures.
