Comelli (1858-1925) was the house designer of the Royal Opera House from the late 1880s to the early 1920s. During this period he also worked for the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane and Daly's Theatre and also designed costumes from a number of Gilbert&Sullivan productions.

Physical description
Costume design for the Male Populace in Act II of Cleopatra at Daly's Theatre. Populace wears a white high waisted skirt held in place by a brown and black belt and patterned braces. Around his neck he wears white and orange beads, on his head a close fitting brown and green hat and on his feet woven and strapped sandals. A light brown cotton fabric swatch accompanies the design.
