Comelli (1858-1925) was the house designer of the Royal Opera House from the late 1880s to the early 1920s. During this period he also worked for the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane and Daly's Theatre and also designed costumes from a number of Gilbert&Sullivan productions.

Costume design for the Female Populace in Act II of Cleopatra at Daly's Theatre. Populace wears a white skirt with a green and orange scarf tied like a sarong around the waist. She wears a white shawl over her shoulders and across her chest. Her hair is long and tied with gold thread and decorated with an orange and gold head band.
