Costume design by Attilio Comelli for Alec Fraser as Victorian in Act I of Cleopatra at Daly's Theatre, 2nd June 1925.

Comelli (1858-1925) was the house designer of the Royal Opera House from the late 1880s to the early 1920s. During this period he also worked for the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane and Daly's Theatre and also designed costumes from a number of Gilbert&Sullivan productions.

Physical description

Costume design for Alec Fraser as Victorian in Act I of Cleopatra at Daly's Theatre. The design shows a full length image of Fraser in a costume based on a Roman soldier's uniform. Fraser is dressed in a brown tunic or lamellar cuirass (possibly leather) over a white short sleeved shirt with a short dark green underskirt and tight fitting brown shorts. On his feet he wears brown strapped sandals and on his head a close fitting helmet showing the face. Around his waist he wears a red belt with silver disk detailing and a matching sword hung at his hip by a strap across his chest. The design is signed Comelli and dated 1925.
