Princess Elizabeth and her family lived at Clarence House between 1949 and 1952. It was here that she gave birth to her second child, Princess Anne Elizabeth Alice Louise, on 15 August 1950. The press encouraged the public to preserve Beaton’s portraits of the young family. Portraits such as this one were printed in newspapers with headlines noting their collectability.
