| Object history | This illustration was lithographed in colours by H.C. Maguire and printed by M. & N. Hanhart. The name given in the drawing as 'Spartium Hipanicum' has been altered on the plate to 'Spartium Hispaniarum'. This drawing is almost certainly from the hand of J.Hardman Powell, Pugin's only assistant and future son-in-law, who was at this time living at the Grange, but, as may be seen from the pencil notes on this drawing, the work was closely supervised by Pugin. The other finished drawings for this book, all in the hand of J. Hardman Powell, are in possession of J. Hardman Powell's descendants. |
