Object history
Richard Hudson designed all but one of the productions in Jonathan Miller's season at the Old Vic in 1988. The success of his designs for Andromache, Too Clever By Half, Bussy D'Ambois, One Way Pendulum and The Tempest won him the 1988 Designer of the Year Award in both the Laurence Olivier Awards and the Drama Magazine Awards. Associated production: Too Clever By Half, or, Even a Wise Man Stumbles, or, The Diary of a Scoundrel. Designer: Richard Hudson. Director: Richard Jones. Old Vic, London. Rodney Ackland's adaptation was originally called The Diary of a Scoundrel and has been performed elsewhere under this title. The play has also been translated as Even a Wise Man Stumbles.
