Woollen prayer carpet in scrolling arabesques in dark blue with lighter blue, white, bright yellow, orange and brown flowers covering the tan ground. There are spandrels above with small flowers on dark blue.
Warp: white cotton; (Z7S)2Z; 32-38 threads per inch (140 per dm); depressed.
Weft: white cotton; Z16S; 2 shoots after each row of knots; 13-20 knots per inch (72-79 per dm.)
Pile: wool; 11 colours; very dark orange, dark orange, orange, yellow, dark blue, blue, light blue, pink, light brown, very light brown, white (NB: some other light colours may have faded to white); asymmetrical knot open to the right and tied around 2 threads; 208-380 knots per sq. inch (5040-5530 per sq. dm).
Side finish: two cords overcast with white cotton.
End finish: Both: 1 cm plainweave and a single-knotted fringe. On the upper left hand side the warp from the side cord becomes the weft.
Design: Field: very dark orange ground with central blossom from which swirl dark blue stems in arabesques with blossoms and leaves. The two spandrels around the niche have a blue ground also filled with flowers and leaves.
Main border: dark blue ground densely packed with rosettes, blossoms and leaves.
Inner and outer borders: the three inner borders, versions of floral meanders, are repeated in reverse order as outer borders. From centre:
(1) dark blue ground with blue and yellow flowers and dark orange leaf
(2) dark orange ground with dark blue meander and blue and orange flowers
(3) faded ground with angular light brown meander and dark orange flowers
(4) as (3)
(5) as (2)
(6) as (1)
Outermost border: undecorated dark orange.
