Woollen pile carpet with cotton.

DESIGN: Field with a blue ground with a large hooked six-sided lozenge with a brown ground. One central row of three hooked and stepped diamonds, one blue and two red. The field, the lozenge and three diamonds contain Herati-type design.

MAIN BORDER: white ground with curving floral meander.

INNER AND OUTER BORDER: dark blue ground with angular multi-coloured floral meander.

INNERMOST BORDER: red ground with multi-coloured X-motifs.

WARP: white wool with brown stripe in centre; Z2S; 28-34 threads per inch (116-126 per dm); depressed.

WEFT: red wool, light brown wool; Z-spun, unplied; white cotton; Z2S; 2 shoots after each row of knots in the following sequence: red wool and light brown wool x 2; cotton; Main border: Light brown wool x 2; Outer border: red (counter shed) and light brown (open shed).

10-12 knots per inch (42-44 per dm).

PILE: wool. 13 colours: red, yellow, dark green, olive green, green, light green, dark blue, blue light blue, dark brown, light brown, black, white; asymmetrical knot open to the left and tied around 2 threads; 140-204 knots per sq. inch (2436-2772 per dm).

Side finish: one cord oversewn with blue/red wool. There are 5 small decorative tufts on the left and 2 on the right.

End finish: Lower: two weft cords; 1.5 cm looped warp ends and 5.5 cm of plain weave with coarse weft and 1 row of weft twining in blue and red wool before the pile. Upper: one pass of red/blue weft twining with single knot fringe 11.5 cm long.
