Object history
This is a rare example of a nineteenth-century acrobat's costume. Because of the strenuous nature of the acrobat's work and the length of time such costumes would have been worn, very
few examples have survived. This is the first such costume to be offered to the Museum. Costumes in this style can be seen in photographs in the Guy Little and Hippisley Coxe collections. Associated production: Performance category: Circus.
