Object history note
Greek is to date the only opera derived from the work of Steven Berkoff. David Blight's costumes for the ENO production draw upon many contemporary sources: the Chorus costumes convey the sense of "down and outs". The costumes for the Chorus are superb examples of contemporary costume making, using basic mackintoshes and then loading them with myriad additions, from newspaper to plastic tubing and syringes (which originally lit up in performance), crochet panels and considerable 'breaking down' in the use of paint and dyes. Associated production: Greek (opera). Designer: David Blight. Director: Jonathan Moore. Wearer and singer: Barry Holland. Character: Chorus member ('Down and Out').Performing company: English National Opera. Coliseum, London, 27.9.1990. Performance category: Opera. Barry Holland was one of the Chorus in this production.
