Object history | Associated production: The Conference of the Birds, or, La Conference des Oiseaux. Designer: Sally Jacobs. Director: Peter Brook. Actor: Maurice Bénichou. Performing company: Centre international de créations théâtrales. Cloitre des Carmes, Avignon, France, 1979.Performance category: Drama. Although the name 'Robert' is written on the design, there was no actor named Robert in the 1979 production. The role of the Hoopoe was played by Maurice Bénichou. The Conference of the Birds was devised by Brook and a multi-national company of actors who toured Africa, performing the play to audiences in villages and townships, from December 1972 to February 1973. The play was taken to America in 1973, and was revived for the 33rd Avignon Festival in 1979 before being taken on a world tour. Costume design for this production: S.1010 to 1015-1995. |
