Object history
According to Pugin's diary he was in Devon twice in 1850, in February and September, and his visit to Ottery St. Mary probably dates from the February visit. The drawing is inscribed in the hand of Jane Knill, Pugin's third wife. Pugin also designed some stained glass for Ottery St. Mary in 1850.
