Label for the exhibition: "The Glamour of Italian Fashion 1945-2014" MAN’S ENSEMBLE Gianni Versace, Spring/Summer 1985 Cotton with silk tie Gianni Versace was at the forefront of Italy’s rapidly expanding ready-to-wear industry. He showed his first collection in 1978 and by the mid-1980s had become one of Italian fashion’s most high-profile successes. While Versace is often associated with glamorous womenswear, this man’s ensemble, which juxtaposes contrasting woven patterns, demonstrates his equal facility with menswear.
