Gallery label
  • LEATHER HANDBAG WITH BAMBOO HANDLE Gucci, late 1960s Two of Gucci’s brand signatures characterise this handbag: bamboo, and striped red and green canvas. Mimicking a horse’s traditional saddle girth, the woven stripes provide an eye-catching Gucci hallmark, regularly adorning the brand’s accessories and ready-to-wear designs. The rounded bamboo cane handles first appeared on Gucci bags in 1947. Their recognisable shape and material distinguished the bags during their rise in popularity during the 1950s and '60s.
