Signed and dated 1826
Lapwings live and nest in rough ground. Their distinctive crests and colourful plumage make them seem more exotic that the rather drab species that predominate in Britain. Lewis exhibited a number of similar at the Royal Academy and the Old Watercolour Society in London.
