Object history
The reliquary of the rib of St. Peter is a signed and dated work by Brother Hugo of Oignies, of 1228. It is described and illustrated in Courtoy 1935, pp.29-26, figs. 11-19. Pugin's diary for 1951 notes that he was in Namur on 23 and 24 July. He was drawing a great deal of church plate on this tour and it seems possible he was planning another illustrated book on the subject with many continental examples, similar to the one he had painted in 1851 on chancel screens.
