Chair cover. No lining. Red silk satin ground, embroidered with coloured silks and gilt paper thread. Embroideries in satin stitch, pekin knot and couched work. When in position on the chair, the 4 independant decorated patterns of the cover suit exactly the structure of the chair. ( behind and in front of the chair's back, the seat and the front. On the two upper parts (back) are featured two pheasants upon conventional rocks, flowering peonies, and bats. One is upside down since it would be seen in reverse once the cover draped on the back of the chair. The third part (seat) has a device of conventional scrolling stems enclosing a flower and a bat; and in the lower part is a flowering peony and bats. A narrow border, composed of interlaced scrolls and rosettes, runs all round.

Object history
Purchased from Mr. P. Kierulff (Villa Peking, Hellerup, Denmark), accessioned in 1901. This acquisition information reflects that found in the Asia Department registers, as part of a 2022 provenance research project.
Chair cover together with 1627B-191, to match with a table hanging and border, 1627&A-191.
