The Brownie Guide Handbook

Book
1970s (written), 1972 (published)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

This Brownie Guide Handbook was owned by a girl called Nancy when she was a Brownie Guide in the 1970s. The Brownies were one of the youth movements started by Robert Baden-Powell in 1914 as the younger version of the Girl Guides.
They were originally called Rosebuds but the name proved unpopular and was changed to Brownies, named after the helpful little creatures that appeared in fairy story, 'The Brownies And Other Tales' written in 1879 by Mrs Juliana Ewing. The handbook tells a Brownie all the things they will be expected to know and do including a list of all the badges a Brownie can gain and instructions for how to achieve them.
