Portrait entitled 'Ethiopian'. One page in an album of gouache drawings, 27, of various characters and their costumes, formerly owned by Edmund and Charles Kean, 18th century. Eddison Collection.
Physical description
Gouache painting depicting a profile image of a man in an eastern style costume consisting of a loose white collarless shift, the sleeves rolled up above his elbows, and with gold braid trim at the centre front, over a knee length white undertunic striped in crimson and trimmed with gold braid. He also wears loose white trousers, pale gold slippers and a white turban trimmed with a red feather. He is heavily armed, with a quiver full of arrows on his back and a bow in his left hand in addition to the short knife in the striped sash at his waist and a sword suspended from his left hip. Above the image is a title reading 'Ethiopian' in pen and ink.
