Object history
The lettering is in two colours, red and blue. Associated Production: Newsome's Grand Circus. Proprietor: James Newsome. Performers: Mr. W. Coleman, Charles Ducrow, Andrew Ducrow (grandson of celebrated Andrew Ducrow), Aaron Hassan (Arab chief), Mr Francisco, Mlle. Adele, Madame Hassan (tightrope dancer), Lizzie Keys, Madame Newsome, J Hogini (posture master and musical momus), Mr. S. Saulte, Elphick (horse), Brunette (horse), Napoleon (horse), Kate Kearney (horse), Victoria (horse), Frisette (horse), Huline and Sons (clowns), Zamazou Troupe, Punch and Judy (performing mules). ca. 1890. Performance category: circus. Around the woodcut image there is a caption in red lettering: 'Thrilling Gymnastic Performances and Daring Acrobatic Feats' and 'Renowned Professors of Equestrian Art'.
