Harold V. Neilson acted in the theatre company run by Shakespearean actor Frank Benson and later went into management with him. In 1933, an accident forced Benson to retire, but Neilson continued to manage a touring ‘Bensonian’ Shakespeare company. Theatre-goers in Dundee could see nine different plays in two weeks. The repetoire consisted of Richard II, Macbeth, As You Like It, Twelfth Night, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Hamlet, Julius Caesar, The Merchant of Venice and King John.
