Wine Pot

1730-1750 (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

The potter who came up with this highly imaginative design for a wine or tea pot modelled both the spout and the handle as lions. A Chinese customer in the 18th century probably would have found the design too unconventional. It would have appealed more to customers in Europe, who would have prized it as a curious item from the Orient.
