The Kangxi period (1662-1722) was a golden age for enamelled porcelain. All sorts of shapes and colours emerged from the skilful hands of potters in Jingdezhen, the porcelain city in Jiangxi province. Large blue and white vases such as this one found special favour with European customers, who used them for interior decoration.
