Lithophane
mid 19th century (made)
Artist/Maker
Place of origin

Lithophane of hard-paste porcelain, moulded in intaglio. In an Italian Renaissance style setting, a woman is drawing wool from a distaff. At her side a child imitates her with its own equipment. To the woman's left stands a table covered with household effects and beside it a small boy. Two women, probably servants, attend to the table and the linen cupboard. In the background, through an open arcade, is the prospect of a loggia, on which two men converse.
