This poster advertised a touring variety show staged twice nightly for a week at the Empress Theatre of Varieties, Brixton, by Tom Arnold (1897-1965), one of the most versatile and successful businessmen of his day perhaps best known for producing lavish ice shows and pantomimes. He started work soon after the first world war as a producer and manager of touring revues such as this, and went on to build up an empire from his interest in all types of entertainment from opera to American rodeo, cinema to circus.

Object history
The featured performers are billed as George Doonan (comedian), Noni and Nita (the Anglo-French clown and his partner), Nita Croft (actress and singer who played Josepha in The White Horse Inn, Cliff Cook, Terry Russell, Ann Rodgers, Alec Harland, Betty Hobbs' Cycling Girls, Al and Hilda Heath, and Marguerite and Charles. The event was produced by Harry Bright under the supervision of Tom Arnold.
