Necklace
1800-1850 (made)
Artist/Maker | |
Place of origin |
This necklace was acquired in Switzerland and described as 17th century Swiss when it entered the Museum’s collections in 1870.
It is not a traditional Swiss design, and appears to have been put together from beads which are probably Italian in origin. The large hollow gold beads, decorated with applied wire rings and with a short tube at each end, are typical of the kind of bead used with traditional costume throughout mainland Italy and on Sardinia.
