Object history
This poster was part of a collection of circus and theatre posters and ephemera collected by John Bates and given to the Norfolk Rural Life Museum by his widow. As the collection fell outside its collecting remit, the Rural Life Museum passed it to the V&A Theatre Museum (now the V&A Theatre and Performance).

Stuck to the poster and extending from the top of it is an overposter slip detailing the date, show ground, and time of performance. There is no place name but it mentions that the circus has returned from Australia and has 'not toured New Zealand since 1962'. It gives the date as 'Thursday 27 February' - the first time that this date falls on this day after 1962 is 1964. After that it is 1969. Associated Production: Sole Brothers Circus' and Wirths' Zoo Animals. Companies: Wirth's Zoo Animals, Sole Brothers' Circus. Winter Show Buildings, Australia. 27.2.?1964. Performance category: circus, zoo.
