This medal commemorates the opening of the Ceramics Study Galleries at the V&A in June 2010. The artist Danuta Solowiej sought her inspiration in the V&A's collections of ceramics and the reverse presents various types of objects to be found in the new galleries.
In addition to consecrating their completion, the medal illustrates the distinctively educative aspect of the new galleries. It reflects both the contemplation (obverse) and classification (reverse) required in the examination of ceramics.

This medal was commissioned by The Curtain Foundation (The London & Amsterdam Trust Company Limited) to Danuta Solowiej in 2010. It was cast by Niagara Falls Castings. Given by the Curtain Foundation in 2010.

Historical significance: In addition to consecrating their completion, the medal makes a significant statement on the distinctively educative aspect of the major new galleries. It reflects both the contemplation (obverse) and classification (reverse) required in the examination of ceramics.

The medal was awarded a Commendation in the Modelling section of the Goldsmiths' Craftsmanship and Design Awards in March 2011.
