Place of origin |
Punch and Judy are unlikely poster stars. These protagonists of knockabout puppet plays, presented in small booths at British seaside resorts and other outside venues, have been famous for over three hundred years, but rarely inspire sophisticated advertising.
In 1967 Denis Piper produced an illustrated guide to Madame Tussaud’s, the London home of waxworks in the Marylebone Road. This image is undated but may have been made in the late 1960s or the 1970s.
