| Gallery label | If parts of this image appear three-dimensional, it is because the artist used embossing. An inventive printmaker, Jackson designed his own roller press to achieve more printing pressure. To make his chiaroscuro woodcuts, he built up images without outlines using shapes from four blocks, achieving as many as ten tones.(August 2019) |
