This brooch pin was made by the distinguished Parisian silversmith, François-Désiré Froment-Meurice ( 1802-1855) whose work was of the highest standard. He employed the most talented designers, enamellers and silversmiths of the day. His firm won numerous prizes at National and International Exhibitions, including a gold medal at the Exposition Universelle of 1855. The brooch pin was part of the firm's display for this exhibition but Froment Maurice himself died suddenly before the opening.

Object history | Made in Paris in the workshops of F-D Froment-Meurice. Purchased by the Museum from the Paris Universal Exhibition of 1855; stolen during or immediately after the 1939-45 war, when the collections were dispersed. Recovered, minus its fittings, in 1953, with object 2660-1856. |
