1675-1725
During the 17th century tea was an expensive luxury taken both as a medicine and for refreshment. It was much more widely drunk in the 18th century, when it was fashionable among the wealthy of continental Europe. During this period, all the tea drunk in Europe was Chinese. Chinese teapots like this were admired in Europe, where they were rare imports.
