This piece was one of many items deposited during the New Kingdom at the mortuary temple of Deir el-Bahari, as a votive offering in the Hathor shrine within the temple complex. The turquoise colour typical of glazed composition was considered appropriate for this goddess, one of whose Epithets was 'Lady of Turquoise'.

Fragment of a votive offering, plain woven linen threaded with blue glazed composition beads, Deir el-Bahari, Egypt, New Kingdom, possibly Dynasty Eighteen
Physical description
Fragment of a votive offering , possibly a shawl, in plain woven undyed linen. Intertwined are the remains of two double rows of blue glazed composition beads. At one end of the panel are the remains of a plaited straw fringe, also with glazed composition beads threaded through.
