Curtain of embroidered crewel work. Linen and cotton twill embroidered with coloured worsteds in stem, long and short, chain, buttonhole, satin, Romanian, coral and detached chain stitches with French knots and speckling.
With a repeating design of wavy stems springing from small wavy mounds and bearing large fanciful leaves with curled and turned-over edges decorated with geometrical or sprig fillings. From the branches spring sprays of small leaves, acorns and vine branches with bunches of grapes, leaves and tendrils. Perched on or flying between the leaves and branches are eight exotic birds including a parrot and two crested birds, some of them bearing sprigs of berries in their beaks. The branches are worked in shades of and the other parts of the design in shades of green relieved by browns and red.
