The Sindy doll was launched in September 1962 by the Pedigree Doll Company. Pedigree had a long history of making dolls and wanted to branch out with a teenage doll. Sindy was one of many teenage fashion dolls reflecting wider popular culture and was nicknamed 'the girl you love to dress'. It's believed that she was the first UK toy product to feature on a 30-second TV commercial. She had a girlish figure and flat shoes at first, with a head of big, curly blonde hair.
The "Funtime" Sindy was produced from 1973 onwards by Pedigree. Sindy is now mainly a line of girls' accessorise produced by New Moons.

| Object history | This doll was given to the museum along with other games by Ann Garret in 2009. They belonged to Bob Dixon, the well known poet, author and peace activist. He was born on 29th November 1931 and died on the 4th October 2008. Publications by him included 'Catching Them Young', 'Now Read On', 'Agitpoems', 'Playing Them False', 'More Agitation', 'Make Capitalism History' and 'The Wrong'. |
