A detailed pencil sketch with watercolour details. It shows a view described as 'Crystal Palace, 1890'. The main building of the palace is clearly defined with watercolour, whilst pencil marks in the foreground are used to hint at additional structures and gardens.
It is one of two sketches held by Theatre and Perfornance Collections that Robert Caney drew in preparation for a production entitled A Million of Money. Caney was a designer active in the late nineteenth century whose work included designs for a production of Robinson Crusoe at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, in 1894.
