Yohji Yamamoto is an important Japanese designer acclaimed for both his technical skills and his unique design vision. This evening dress reflects much of Yamamoto's design approach: his avoidance of symmetry, his preoccupation with black and silhouettes that are oversized, layered and draped. The dress dates from the autumn/winter 2005-6 season, a collection in which Yamamoto used black and occasional slices of vibrant colour, along with gently tiered layers of fabric, to great effect.

Physical description

Black chiffon strapless evening dress with detachable black and yellow silk swag. The gently tiered bodice and fitted skirt give way to a fuller skirt accented by a bright yellow silk swag attachable by a single press stud. There is a hook and eye closure supplemented by a zip at the side. The dress is mounted on a woollen lining, 86% wool, 7% angora, 2% cotton and 5% nylon.
