A full length, chromolithograph. A pencil inscription on the back suggests the image is of a dancer called Mlle. Sontag. Positioned in the midst of an idyllic natural landscape the dancer is dressed in a loose, greek style tunic. This white tunic consists of a hip length upper layer over a shin length base layer both of which are gathered at the waist. A length of pink fabric, presumably attached at the waist flows out behind her. She is also wearing Grecian inspired leather sandals and has one foot upraised. Her arms are also raised and she holds a large tambourine in her left hand, striking it gently with her right. Her hair is loose and flowing and is dressed with a garland of white, pink and yellow flowers.

Whilst this image does bear a striking resemblance to the singer Mlle. Henriette Sontag it could also be a portrait of her sister Nina who worked as an actress before becoming a nun. The fact however that this image of a woman dancing means that it may be the case that neither Nina nor Henriette Sontag were the inspiration for this sketch. Harry Beard Collection.
