Artist/Maker

A full length, stipple engraving of an unknown dancer. Standing in an imagined landscape, next to a delicate flower and in front of a distant view of pinnacled buildings, she is wearing a shin length full skirted dress with cap sleeves. The dress is very plain with simple bands of darker material at the hem and sleeve edges. Over the dress she is wearing a small apron decorated with floral motifs. She is also wearing a translucent dark scarf with a wide decorative band at the base. Bangles at her wrists, a necklace, earrings, and the strand of bands woven in to her hair, complete her outfit. A pencil inscription at the base of the print reads 'La Boyadere'.
The image is also signed, Weld Taylor, who appears to be the artist who created the original sketch. Harry Beard Collection.
