Scale models can play an important part in the design process because they can be produced much more easily than full-sized prototypes. Matthew Hilton designed this armchair for the Italian manufacturer Driade in 1992. He made this fibreglass mould for a 1:5 scale model of the armchair, to show its shape and proportions. The mould has three parts, a base and two variant tops.
