Place of origin

A large illustration of a performance from the Norwich Musical Festival in Saint Andrews Hall, 1848. The scene focuses a view of tiered steps, at the centre and top of which is a large organ. The central section of the steps is taken up by the orchestra and conductor, with female and male singers standing on either side. Many members of the audience (who are depicted sitting and standing in the foreground of the sketch) appear to be discussing the performance.
The article which accompanies this sketch declares this to be an image of the ninth Norfolk and Norwich Music Festival of which Her Majesty the Queen is the patron. The festival appears to have taken place on a triennial basis, the first festival having been held in 1824. Harry Beard Collection.
