Hand woven carpet, natural coloured wool warp and wool weft in brown white and blue. Plain weave broken by a row of knotted pile after every 22nd pick: pile of cotton rag strips dyed indigo and natural linen yarn of Turkish knots type. The knots are arranged in groups of three blue and six natural linen, and are staggered in each row thus creating diagonal stripes across the whole rug. The plain weave ground is brown. At either end of the rug there is narrow band of tapestry woven chevron pattern in brown, blue and white. The initials 'MMF' are woven into this border at the bottom left hand corner. The warp ends are knotted in groups of three and then plaited in groups of six, forming a fringe.
