Object history | According to tradition, this watch originally belonged to King Charles II (1630-85), and was presented by his brother James II (1633-1701) to a member of the Pratt family of Cabra Castle, Co. Cavan, Ireland, after receiving hospitality from him. However, the watchcase appears to be a 19th century fabrication in the 17th century style. The dial and hands date from about 1750. |
