These two fragments of lampas silk once formed part of a brightly coloured silk and gold textile. The pattern in gold is made of flat strips of tanned leather, gilt on the upperside and silvered on the underside. The design shows part of a phoenix, lotus flowers, knots and small diaper pattern.

Brief description
Two lampas silk fragments with gold pattern of phoenix, lotus flowers and knots.
Physical description
Two fragments of lampas silk (pannus tartaricus) mounted together, areas of compound weave (broken twill ground), coloured warp stripes in white, blue and red (now beige) and pattern in gold: weft of leather strip gilt on one side and silvered on the other, part of a design containing part of a phoenix, lotus flowers, knots and small diaper pattern.
Flat strip cut from double-sided metal coated, vegetable tanned leather. One side of the strip is covered with letal leaves hammered from gold alloyed with a small amount of silver, the reverse side with silver leaves hammered from pure silver. The silver was probably covered with a protecting lacquer layer.
